About
WHO:
My name is Lance. (last name withheld to allow some privacy) I work for a local phone company as a Communications Technician, working on everything from the Telephone Switch in the Central Office, installing and repairing Business Systems (PBX, Key Systems) to installing and repairing the buried or aerial copper cable in the field and the wiring at the customer premise, be it residential or business.I am the father of 2 daughters and husband to a wonderful wife. My plan is to create a home network with security measures and other nice bells and whistles. A lot of the knowledge I gain from this will be due to the fact that some of my coworkers are highly skilled and knowledgeable in the areas of Networking and Linux, two things that will play a dominant role in my hobby.
I have recently obtained my CCNA and so my networking knowledge is beyond the basics, however there’s volumes still to learn.
WHY:
The purpose of this blog is to share with all as I learn more about networking, Linux, net-security and what-not. In addition, I will be setting up a Linux server to run Apache (for serving web pages) and various other valuable tools.I intend to share and document when I can my trials and errors and hopefully successes in steps on setting up routers, Linux servers, Proxies, etc. As I learn this information, I hope to be able to relay what I can in an understandable way for others to glean this information and be able to use it as they see a need.
If you find that I do not explain things clearly or that I explained something wrong, please e-mail me by clicking on the envelope at the top of the page. I’d rather be correct and corrected than to continue with wrong thinking. It would not serve me well or those who read this info.
I have the privilege of working with some talented and very knowledgeable people who are more than willing to open up their cranial storehouse and share its bounty with me. Yes Sean and Jeff, I’m talking about you.
